We took a little trip

Hubby wants to build some more Lap Steel Guitars, but
lumber in the dimensions he needs isn't off the rack at the lumber yard. It needs to be close to 2 inches thick, and according to which design he does, at least 9 inches wide, and usually more.
He found a posting on Craigs List for what he needed, and called the guy, to make sure posting was right.  And find out when he could come look.

Yesterday morning we got in the truck and headed south about 70 miles , down Scenic 7,  one of the most picturesque highways in the state. We hadn't been down that way in awhile, and I can tell you, it is much different in a small pickup, than it was when we were in the 18 wheeler.
As you can see, this highway has a few curves.  We pulled over to let the
truck get ahead a ways, and this is one of the few photos I took in a parked vehicle, most of the rest of the shots were doing 50 to 55 miles per hour.

There are a lot of these little creeks, as all this is hilly, and every little valley has
a creek.
Then we got back to Fourche Junction, where the Fourche River is dammed up to
create Lake Nimrod.
The lake above the dam
The Dam was blocked, couldn't drive across,
but a gate was open so I did go out on it a bit.

water shooting out through the dam.

Fishermen just below the dam, as the water goes out into the river, again.
Across on other side of the river, another small creek wanders into the
Fourche LaFave River.
We weren't the only sight seers.
One of the many picnic tables.
This park is one that Julie and Jd like to camp at, and
the people that watch it, knowing it is just her and Jd, keep an eye out
making sure she is safe.
And a cloud formation that I saw, do you see the face?

And here, 140 miles later, and with a good lightening of
our pocket book, is the makings of the guitars.

Here is the lumber, 2 boards of
Walnut,8 inches by 4 ft and 1- 10 ft cherry 11 inches wide

Pictures when they are planed, and ready to cut.
I think they are close to 2 1/2 inches thick.

The Woman's Study Bible

New International Version
Thomas Nelson Publishing
Nashville Tennessee

I have never owned a study Bible before, so when I was given a chance to revie this one, I jumped quickly.
I really like the fact that you can read the verses, then read what someone who has studied the Bible extensively, has to say about what the verses are telling you.

I found that there is a list of herbs, and the uses for them, which I find very interesting.  I also found a genealogical chart for some, which helps instead of saying so and so begat xxx, who begat yyy.  I'm more a visual person, so this helps me 'see' what they are trying to say.

I really like this Bible, and feel that for someone who needs help understanding, that this would be a great addition to their library.  Thanks for the opportunity to review this, and it will stay at my desk forever.

I was given a copy of this bible to review, no other compensation was given.  I am not required to give a positive review, and all opinons expressed here are my own.

Black in Bloom

The darker ones were taken in sunlight,
the ones that show purple/black were taken with a flash late this evening after the sun went down.

Black and Pink and Red

My Hollyhocks are beginning to bloom.
I have 3 colors so far,
and maybe more to come.
The red is new, more red than any I've had.
And here is the pink,
I have several of these.
I've been wantin a black, ever since I saw one
and have tried a couple of times, but they didn't come up or never bloomed.  Last spring, I found a package of them and couldn't resist.
You can't tell much right now, but, hopefully tomorrow or in a day or so, they'll be bloomed out, and you can see them plainly.  Right now, just the end of the bud is showing, but it looks JET black...
4 O'Clocks right beside the garage door.
And matching pot on other side of door.  I got these for
$20 for the pair about 3 years ago at an auction.  Hubby thought I paid too much, until he found that a
pair of them would have been at least $60 at the store.

Just Ramblin

The Phoebes are back, preparing the old nest to renest.
So we will have babies, again, in a few weeks.

The Cardinal surveyed her old nest, but I think she will nest elsewhere.

Here is a mouse we caught.

We were in need of a new switch for a lift chair, and
to purchase the switch ready to install was a bit more than we
wanted to give.
So we purchased a switch, without the
power cord and housing, and
made our own.
Can you say REDNECK.

This is having a birthday party this weekend.  Hard to believe that
she will be 10.
I have a bright pink Hollyhock blooming,
and most of the others will be blooming shortly,
pictures of them when they do.
Keep your fingers crossed that at least 1 of the
black ones made it.

Haven't seen this, yet, this year.  Isn't he pretty?

Hydrangias blooming?

Nope, just weeds right now.
These were about 6 ft tall last year, but died back.
Trimmed up and waiting.

But these are, there are 3 colors here, I've only found two so far.

The Honeysuckleis going crazy over on other side of fence

Cannas and polk Salat, thought I'd pulled all the polk out.
Nope, not a snake, but as big as one, just has legs and not as long.
I must say, before I noticed the legs, the first thing I thought was gun.
And the big horse, see how high the motor sets.
He can till the garden in 15 minutes on slow speed, now.  He would
have to run to keep up with it, on higher speed
Tiller, 34 years ago, $340
Motor, about $80 new
Hubby's joy at the not having to work on the old motor all the time, PRICELESS

Just around the yard.....

Hollyhock, hope this is a black one.

Not sure which color these are either, but I'm betting pink and white.
We will see soon.
Cannas on both sides of this fence, most are yellow or
tiger
Tub of 4 O'Clocks varigated, and pinks and white ones.

Green beans in the garden,
Okra, just up and ready to thin.
Tomatoes are growing
and so are these, look at those ears.
Tell me what is wrong with this picture?
There are 3 in each litter, and they are now in the same bed...
Mothers probably share nursery duty.

Invisible by Ginny L Yttrup

This is the story of 3 women.
Ellyn, who is 'hefty' but a wonderful chef, and well loved by everyone but herself. And the harder she tries to lose weight, the more she wants to eat.
Twila, who has eating issues, she can't stand to eat, she sees herself as fat, even though she is stick thin.
Sabina, who has escaped away from her husband, and counciling practice, to wallow in  depression becaues of issues that have happened that were beyond her control.

This book explores the root causes of their problems., that they discover, after becoming friends.

Have you ever recognised yourself in a character in a book?  No, I don't mean like it was written about you, but something about the character, you see, and know it is explaining something about you.   Well, Ellyn, when she finds the roots of her 'problem' confronts it, and there, in the confrontation I see myself.  I want to thank the author for clearing something up to me, that I didn't understand in my 64 years.  I know this wasn't her intention, but I feel blessed to have read this book.

I received a copy of this book from B&H publishing group to read and review, no other compensation was given.  All opinions expressed here are my own.  I'm not required to give a positive review.

2 new nests

We had been cutting brush, and then doing this, this morning, when
I kept hearing a bird throwing a bit of a fit.
so I watched her, and finally saw her go into this
And come back out with an empty beak.
Here she is, it is a Tufted Titmouse, and I never would
have had a clue where they might nest.
Here is what the rest of the tree looks like, I don't know what caused this
gash on the east side of it.
And a bit lower, and more.

And then here is the next nest I found..

When I found them, I had no clue who the mother was,
I just heard a baby crying, and followed the sound.
But shortly she showed up, and let me knnow that
she was quite proud of herself, and
was going to take care of her babies.
So, I hope to be able to hang onto this little
white one.  Mother is about the color of the one next to the white.
