No matter how hard I try, I have never managed to go through a year,
with a resolution in tact,
so
My New Years Resolution for this year,

What a Sendoff!

Today, a great man was laid to rest.  I don't mean a rich man, or a well known man, but he was a man of God, who loved his family and his church.  The minister had his orders,  Bobby had told him he didn't want tears, and Johnny did his best.  He told stories of his life around Bobby, and pretty much had people laughing through their tears.  Johnny was
a family friend from the time he was a small boy, and Bobby's mom and dad cared for him, during that time.  Johnny makes strange faces as he preaches, and that, alone helped loosen the mood.   Our Minister sang, and helped with the funeral.

When it was time to leave the church for the cemetery,
Here is what Bobby took his last ride in, a custom made coach.  I  The hobby of our funeral home director, is building custom made coaches.  I had to leave to go get plates and I told Richard (the funeral director) that I was going to snap a couple of photos.  He told me he was sorry it was wet and rainy, but if I would stop by the funeral home, he would drive me around the block in it, and I didn't have to wait until I was ready to ride in the back.  I could sit up front.  I think I'm going to take him up on it soon.

Here is one of the floral arrangements, I just love it so I snapped some photos so I can see if I can do something similar.

Update on things

First, my son in law lost his father on Sunday night.
Bobby spent Christmas in Heaven with Jesus, and
according to granddaughter, they were watching Gunsmoke Reruns.
Visitation is tonight, and Funeral is tomorrow afternoon.

Our Christmas was spent watching it snow..
We woke up on Wednesday morning with about 13 inches on the ground,
some said they had a bit more, some said a bit less.

I did get a couple of photos,
which I will share.
My Bronco II hardly

Maple tree in front of house

Wednesday, and new computer

So now the week is flying by, and
I just ordered 2 more gifts to be delivered before Christmas
Neither of which is from me.  I can't tell what they are, as a
person, who shall remain nameless, might skip by my blog.

I gifted to myself this year, I purchased a new computer for my desk.  The old one was 7 1/2 years old, and
too slow to watch videos on, in case you sent me one.
So I now have one with blazing speed, so they say.

Now for the serious part of the
post.
My son in law's father is not well at all.  Time is slipping away
and I'd appreciate prayer, just that God's will be done,
and that the family finds peace in whatever the
timing and results are going to be.
Bobby is a Deacon at our church, and I'm sure he knows that
his parents are waiting in Heaven to see him, when he arrives.
Of course, Brian, and the grandkids don't want to see him go, but, they understand that they will see him again someday, soon.

Shootings

I debated posting anything about this, and I made the decision just to ask for Prayers for all the people involved.
God knows their needs, and he will fill them, in his way, in his time.

A special shout out

Today is 12-12-12
And it is also the
birthday of a very special
person in my life.

Diana of Nana Diana fame.
She was born about
23 days after I was
but we didn't get know each other until about 2006 via a ladies group on
the internet.
*
She is grandmother to
Sweet Cheeks
Who I think is a clone of
Diana.

Diana has a warped sense of humor,
which keeps everyone
laughing.
She is  generous and always offers a shoulder to lean on, when her friends are
in need, in any way.
I've used that shoulder quite often
I thank God
every day, for the day he put her in my life.
Happy Birthday
wonderful friend.
May you be blessed with many more.

UPDATE

Tete didn't have surgery this morning, and it has been put off until December 26th, if I read her message right.

Just more Ramblin

My friend, Tete, who has a blog, Beyond the Garden Gate, is having surgery as I type.  Pray that it goes well, and she heals fast.  She is a very sweet and caring person, who has gone through a lot in the past few years, with her health.

It is 14 days until Christmas, and can you believe that I have purchased nothing at all.  Daughter picked up granddaughter's gift, I still need to pay her for my part, other grandmother is paying half, and we are paying half.  She is getting an Android tablet.  I should say she has gotten it, and is enjoying it a lot.  I get the sweetest emails from her, " I love you more than an elephant has toes".  lol
Now I need to get the boys gifts.  Jd wants Hobby Lobby money, his favorite store, he takes his discount coupons, and purchases his stuff, so he saves his money.  Stephen wants Itunes cards, so he can download more music...Oh well, easy shopping.

I still haven't gotten out any Christmas Cards this year.  I am thinking I am not going to do many.  Daughter took photos at Thanksgiving, and I think I'm going to mail out a picture of the family with trees sticking out of their heads, and that will be my card.

Bad Weekend

I have that darned arthritis really bad, my spine, neck, and hip are the worst places, knees, too.  We've had a major front coming through, so all day Saturday, even while I worked to get things cooked, attended a funeral, and helped serve a dinner for the family afterward, I hurt.

I came home, put on some heat and took some Tylenol  but still didn't sleep much Saturday night...Sunday, I couldn't turn my head more than about 3 or 4 inches, so I didn't go to church, and sat here, whining....
Finally the front moved through about 5:00pm last night, and the pain let up enough that I got some rest.

And, one of the wild cats decided to challenge Flash to a race across the dog pen, while I was gone, Saturday afternoon.  Needless to say, the cat lost.  Why, when they get to a certain age, do they feel they are 10 ft tall and bullet proof, I'll never know. When you dare an 80 pound dog, who is just looking for a chance to run and play tag, you had better be fleet of foot, and a good jumper.   They have 6 acres to roam, and play, Flash has about 1/6 acre, leave him alone, it is a game to him, to play tag and win.

Bargain hunter and Crafting

If you know me at all, you know that I will never pay full price for anything that I can get a discount on, anywhere.
I have 2 white cabinets, got them at an auction a few years ago, still in box, to be put together, for $12.00.
Yes, I know that was a huge bargain, if you'll go to Lowes or Home Depot and look, you will find they sell for over $100 each...
Now the cabinets need a top...
Anyway, I was gifted a large amount of tile, and
my thoughts are to put tile on the top, but first I needed some
Hardibacker, to glue the tile to, so off I go to Lowes.
I don't need full sheets, so I start digging in the damaged
stuff, and found a sheet with corner off.  I asked the sales clerk what they would discount it to, he said $5.00, I'll take it.
And he said he would sell me the 2 sheets that were broken in half for $2.00 each..
SOLD!   for $9.00 I just $33.00 of Hardibacker, enough to do the two cabinets, and plenty left over, for more projects.

I promise to do a photo blog soon, with working on the cabinet tops.
But now, I'll  give you a couple of photos
of what I worked on yesterday.
I told you I was 'thrifty'
Diana, don't you dare say cheap!
I made these two

floral baskets.
I still need to find the pink ribbon, and finish the
bottom one.
Have you been to the florist shop lately?
Go price one similar to this, and you'll then know why I make them for myself.
The bow would be almost as much as I have in the whole
basket..
OK Diana, now you can say
Cheep Cheep Cheep.

Healed, and in Heaven

Just got word a few minutes ago, that
Mary Lou
passed away about 9:00 pm this evening.  Pray for her husband, Charles, their daughter, and the rest of their family.  And also for her Church family, as they go through the process of saying  See Ya Later.

Faithful to Laura by Kathleen Fuller

Thomas Nelson Publishing

I really enjoyed the story of Sawyer and Laura, and how they find common ground to connect and form a relationship. Both come from outside the community, and struggle with fitting in for different reasons. They have lots of baggage, but once each can convince the other to trust, Sawyer and Laura find that they're not so different.  I was glad that the story included a lot of their relationship with our Maker, without making it overwhelming.

Kathleen Fuller has written a wonderful story, and I enjoyed the way she put it together.  I'll be looking for more of her books.

I recieved an E Book from Booksneeze to read and review.  No other compensation was given.  All opinions expressed here are my own.  I'm not required to give a positive review.

Should be a card

I found this on facebook today, and I thought how true.
Sometimes the bumps and bruises
aren't nearly as hurtful as
the spoken word.

I know a couple of people who deserve to receive this as a card.

Prayers again needed

I want to ask for prayer for a friend, and member of our church.  Her name is Mary Lou, she is a very sweet and giving person.  Recently, she was diagnosed with cancer of the lungs.  The Chemo seemed to be shrinking it, but they then discovered this week, that some of it is now in her brain.
Now she has had some seizures, and  was given a radiation treatment.  She is now home.
Her family just lost her brother about a week ago, also from cancer.
Please pray for peace for this family, I know they are really suffering with all this going on.  She has attended church though most of this, showing her faith in her Savior.

Also, please pray for Frank,  he and I went to school together, and have managed over the years to stay in touch.  He is a minister, and just all around good guy.  He is also undergoing chemo, and he is quite sick.   He is hold his head high, but his daughters, son, wife, and grandkids are fighting to keep things level, during all this.

And, remember my son in law's father, he is quite weak, still no diagnosis, he's battled cancer for about 5 or 6 years, but this time,t hey are hoping it is something other than cancer, causing his problem.

I'm sorry, this post is not my usual silliness, but I felt led to put these people up for prayer.

Jettie's just Ramblin again

There is another turkey in the fridge, thawing.
This  Sunday is our Annual
Thanksgiving/Christmas
potluck at church.
I had planned on the turkey, not thinking it would be so close to our
Thanksgiving meal.
I guess I'll eat what someone else brings, lol.

Julie got some 'almost' good news yesterday.
She called the Auction company where she placed a bid on the
land next to her, about a month ago.  She's kept the land mowed for about 12 years, as there is nothing on the land, no buildings or anything.  Anyway, they told her her bid had been accepted by the lawyer, just have to wait for court approval, which we hope is soon. If she does get it, then she can fence the area
and keep people off it, and it will also increase her lot to double it's current size.

I have started a Water Aerobics class at the local
gym.  It is a very large heated pool, and I get to spend 75 minutes
working those joints that don't like to move on land.  I've been going about a month, and can tell it really helps.  Today I think I did more than normal.  I also got my water shoes today, they insist it will help my feet stay soft and supple, instead of rough.
They got routed wrong, or I would have had them for the class today.

I also received a basket of things that I won in a drawing that one of the authors that I review for, hosted.
It said box 2 of 2, so I hope to get the other half tomorrow.

Here is a bunch of overstuffed faces from our Thanksgiving feast.
This is the whole family, David and Robin, Stephen, Julie, Brian, Kim.
Skylar and JD
Jettie and Jerry.

So now you know us all, drop in again, soon,
for another bout of rambling.

Thanksgiving, just a couple of days late

Today, we will be having our
Thanksgiving
get together, with all the children and grandchildren.
I've got the turkey in the oven.  I know that he was supposed to be smoked, but between the cold temps and
hubby hurting his ankle, which I am sure you know was all my fault, we decided to roast him in the oven, instead.
I made that decision,
when I saw that it was either that,
or raw turkey for dinner.
We are also serving southern cornbread dressing, no not stuffing, dressing.
I'm making 3 pans of rolls, they will be started just in time, to bake and take to the table, still hot from the oven.
And my contribution for dessert,
Lemon Icebox Pie
Though it is in a large glass dish, not pie plates.
Now,
daughters are bringing
homemade mac and cheese
sweet potatoes
green beans
pumpkin pie
and
whatever else they feel like cooking.
I'm sure there will be cake of some kind,
and maybe more than one.

We've sampled the dressing, it has passed inspection,
I scraped the bowl when I made the pie,
and  it passed the taste test.
Thank goodness we aren't eating until about 4:00pm
because all that testing doesn't leave much room for
food right now.

Hope your weekend is wonderful
and
Safe,
and that if you participated in
Black Friday,
you got everything you went to get, and
didn't have to yank someone's hair out, to
get it.

Oh, now I thought of something else.
A few years ago, when they were doing Black Friday
at about 5:00am in the morning, my 'little' son in law
was in Walmart, with his buggy piled high with
items from the sale.
He had his back to his buggy, and was down the isle getting something else.
A
woman decided to help herself to
an item in his buggy.
When he turned around and looked at her, she
reached and put the item back into his buggy,
and walked away.
You see, my 'little' son in law
is 6ft 7 inches and at that time a good 260 pounds.
Guess she didn't want to arm wrestle him over that
bread maker.

A slight accident

I had just a bit of an accident this morning.
Went to feed the cats, the 2 youngest, I feed away from the others, so they get enough
to eat.  I pick them up and sit them on a table, and give them some cat food, along with whatever I have
either canned food, or meat scraps from the kitchen.
Well, this morning, I took some meat scraps out, and
my finger bit the kitten's sharp teeth.
His teeth are fine, but my finger is a bit worse for wear.
Here is the culprit.
Doesn't he look innocent?
If you don't know him, his name is Oreo.
He and Peaches love being fed on the table.
This is Peaches, who refuses to eat from anyone's hand but mine.
No teeth marks from this one, though.
You'll notice that this one's eyes are blue, green, and amber.

Also, after waiting a week, I'm finally accepting the fact that
Snowball is no longer here.  I've searched everywhere, and
he is no where to be found.
He disappeared during the day, last Thursday.
I'm hoping someone came along, and picked him up, but I don't know.
Guess it just wasn't meant for me to have a 'white' tame cat

Prayer Requests and One little #

A wonderful lady that I met in the hospital, yes, way back when we were infants, is having surgery on Monday.  Her name is Kaye, and we are hoping that this surgery helps with her diabetes.
Anyway, please pray that all goes well with her surgery.  We've actually been friends for about 32 years, she's one of those special people that we can go for months without talking to each other, and pick up where we left off, when we do talk.

And, my dear friend, Tete, from Beyond the Garden Gate, is having tests today, pray they turn out well, and she can have her gall bladder surgery soon.

and about the One Little #
If you read my last post, about screwups,
this is an update.  They had left 1 little # out when they updated my card, and that one little number threw everything off.
and what was that number, you say?
0

Do you ever wonder?

How some people survive?  How they keep a job?  Well, I do.
1.
A few days ago, hubby went to buy a part.  I'd called and priced it, and verified it was in stock.  He goes in, and they try and charge him almost double what they priced it to me.  Then said the cheaper one wasn't in stock.  They had already billed him, when he found this out.  Told them he didn't want it, they voided ticket, and he walked out.   We went to another store and got name brand part for less than the 'off brand' they were trying to sell him.
2 days later, here comes a bill, yep, they'd charged us for the part on our account. $76.00 for a part we didn't get.  I got it straightened out, took me an hour, and got a credit on our account... Can I charge them for the hour I wasted?
2.
When I went to get my flu shot, the Mammogram van was at the clinic.  Did I want to get my mammogram now?  I don't have my card, hasn't renewed yet, but they promised they could call and get the information.  So, Yes, I'll save a trip and get it today.....A few days later, I get a call, the # 'I' gave them isn't correct.  That is the number they said they got from ABC.   I get a letter yesterday, on a Saturday of course, that my # isn't valid, and I owe them $189.00.  So on Monday, I have to call ABC or the regular clinic, get my number, and spend an hour or two getting this mess straightened out...
This is just the 2 latest incidents, makes you want to hide out and never deal with people....
I sometimes wonder how some of these people manage to drive a car, walk and chew gum at the same time, and remember their way home.  But they get a paycheck!

Decorating 1-0-1

A few years ago, I told my friend, Diana, from Nana Diana fame, that there was a place she could come and hide out, if things ever got a little hairy up her direction.
The colors are vivid this time of year.

 the Lioness is friendly

And this one can help keep her warm
But she would need to do a bit of redecorating
and would you believe she told me she would NOT
accept my invitation to visit...said she would not take on redecorating this....
I think she's just plain lazy.

Tattle Tale lol

Isn't he cute?
This is Buddy-boo, my 8 year old long haired
Doxie, who is spoiled rotten and weighs about 12 pounds.

This is JJ (Jumpin Jack) Flash
who 'owns' his own recliner, out on the porch.
It is stocked with his very own quilt
and he's quite attached to it.
Sadly, This little thing thinks anywhere
he wants to set, is available, as you can see, here, he caught
Daddy asleep and helped himself to a snuggle.
He wanted outside a few minutes ago, and
shortly afterward, I heard nails on the door.  Figuring it was
him wanting back inside, I opened the door, to see Flash
standing there, then he turns and looks at his chair, where
Buddy-boo was making himself comfy.
So he was tattling on that little upstart who
was trying to steal his sleeping spot.
I picked up Buddy-boo, and Flash jumped into his chair, and
got comfy, while we were heading back inside, with BB complaining all the way.

The Hunted Hare by Fay Sampson

Jenny and Aidan Davison go on a short vacation with their daughter, Malengall, to get away, and deal with Jenny's terminal cancer.  On their way to the House of the Hare, they are almost run over by a fancy car with two men inside.  Shortly after they arrive, thing take a turn for the worse, when a murder is discovered, and everyone there is considered a suspect, at least at the beginning.  As the murder is investigated, the Davison family gets drawn in more closely, and danger lurks.

This book is a very interesting read, and I had no idea where it was going, or who was the real killer, until the very end.  I like a book that keeps you guessing, and this one fit perfectly. I know there is going to be a followup book, and I sure hope it is close to being as good as this one.

I received a copy of this book from Kregel Publications in exchange for my honest review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.

Prayers please

I'm going to ask for prayers for my Sister in Christ, Tete, from
Beyond the Garden Gate blog.
She was rushed to hospital yesterday, and even though she was sent home, after a few hours, she has
physical issues that need to be addressed.
She is a wonderful lady, who always prays for all those in need of prayer.

Also, I'm asking for prayer for my son in law, and his family.
His father, Bob, has gone through so much in the past few years,
several bouts with cancer, and many other issues which I won't
go into here, and now, he is anemic, and has to get blood several times a month.
Just say a prayer that God's Will be done.

AT THE FEET OF JESUS by Joanna Weaver

Daily devotions to nurture a Mary Heart in a Martha World.
376 pages
WaterBrook Press

Do you find it hard to find time to sit down and read the Bible?  After you've read a chapter, do you have trouble completely understanding the meaning?   Would it be easier for you to sit down and read a page a day?

I find that reading a Devotional is easier for me, and I actually understand more.

Joanna Weaver has put a lot of effort and thought into this Devotional, and I really enjoyed it.  I keep this book close to where I sit, and I grab it whenever I have a few minutes of undisturbed time, to study.

I'm giving a copy of this book to someone special for her birthday in a few weeks.

I was given a copy of this book, to read and review, no other compensation was given.  All opinions expressed here are my own, I'm not required to give a positive review.

The Memory Jar by Tricia Goyer

When Sarah's friend Patty met with a tragic accident, drowning  when another boat hits theirs.  Sarah thought she would never get over her loss.  They had been best friends for years, and were almost inseparable, and Patty had been Sarah's brother's girlfriend.

Patty's family moved away, taking her brother Michael, and Sarah's hope for love and marriage.  Sarah didn't know that Patty's family had left Patty's memory jar with her mother, to give her, when the time was right.

Every year, Amish bachelors descend upon the town of West Kootenai to find work, to hunt, and to hike the mountains. When Sarah meets Jathan Schrock, she realizes there's still hope; hope for her heart and for her dreams. Going on a hike, Sarah hurts her leg, gets lost, and she and Jathan end up spending the night on the mountain.

I  love Amish fiction, and Tricia Goyer is one of the best writers in this genre that I know of, so I always grab her books whenever I have a chance, and this one didn't disappoint.

I was given a copy of this book to read and review, no other compensation was given.  I am not required to leave a positive review, all opinions expressed here are my own.

HEALING LOVE by Laura V Hilton

Published by Whitaker House
285 pages
Amish of Webster County series

Kristi Lapp is a young midwife in Webster County, delivering babies for the Amish community.  When her buggy is involved in an accident and her leg is broken, Shane Zimmerman, an Englisher,  the new vet in the community,  finds her, and gets her to the hospital.  He visits her every day, and she finds he is her nearest neighbor.  He volunteers to walk her dog, Chinook, who is more than Kristi can handle, with her injuries.

Shane has move to Webster County to get away from the memories of his wife and baby dying, at what he considers the hands of a midwife's inability to give proper attention.  Even though he is attracted to Kristi, he wants nothing to do with her 'calling'.  Will they find a way to get around their differences, or will he move on, and find a woman who shares his values?

I give this book 4 1/2 stars.  It is really a good book, easy to read and understand.

I was given a copy of this book, to read and review by the Author.  I receive no other compensation.
I am not required to give a favorable review, and all opinions expressed her are my own.

And I am giving away a copy of this book, to the person who can most closely guess the time it took me to read it.
Please put your guesses in hours and minutes only, as in 1 hr and 12 minutes, or 16 hrs and 15 minutes.

BORDERS OF THE HEART by Chris Fabry

When J. D Jessup's wife passed away, he left a career in Nashville and his music behind.  He ended up on an Organic farm in Arizona, where Illegal's crossed the borders at night.  His instructions, call border patrol.
While checking the farm, he finds a Mexican woman, almost dead from exhaustion and lack of water.  Instead of turning her in, he helps her, without telling his 'boss'.
This sets off a rash of trouble, people trying to kill him, and her, and hiding from the Mexican drug cartels.

I really enjoyed this book, most of it was very realistic and the romance was understated for the most part.    I've read another book by this author, and I have to say his writing is very good, with a lot of realism, and if I find another, I'll be sure and read it, too.

I was given a copy of this book by Tyndale Publishing, to read and review.  I received no other compensation.  All opinions expressed here are my own, I'm not required to give a favorable review.

Just Updating things

I know I haven't posted much lately, things here have been a little crazy:
On Tuesday night, Huckleberry got sick, throwing up.  That wasn't unusual for him, he's always had stomach issues. (of course when you 'steal food' you need a cast iron stomach)  Wednesday morning, I ran to town and got him some meds for his stomach, because he was still not well  At noon, he was better, as far as that went, but was weak.  Just laying around.  By 2:30 pm, he was gone, I think he had a heart attack.  Not sure, just know that one minute he was with us, and the next he was gone.  We buried him outback with the others that have crossed the bridge since we were here.
Comments from the grandchildren,
Skylar: Are you getting another dog?  I hope you get a puppy, I'd like to have a puppy to play with.
Jd:  I guess he won't be stealing my food anymore (at age 3, Jd brought a cooked deer steak over for his lunch.  He ate a bit of it, set it down to go to bathroom, and Huckleberry swiped it while he was gone, he's never forgotten it.)
Daughter in law:  I no where some pups are that you can have, they are half Rat Terrier and half Standard Poodle.
NO THANKS.  She knows me well, but we are not in the market for another right now.
Besides, dogs and cats usually find us, we don't have to go looking for them.
And if the comments seem a little insensitive, there was some tears involved, Skylar took 2 days to ask for a puppy.
And, I do miss Huckleberry, a lot, in fact. But he was getting old, and was grumpy with his aches and pains.  So, I feel that it is best he passed, and not suffered worse.
RIP dear friend, I'll see you at the bridge one day soon.

Official Portraits,

Today, we had our
'official portraits' done.

I didn't know, at the beginning, if we would ever make it this far.
 This was taken on 9/7
which is the day I found this tiny thing, his umbilical cord was gone, but still had a small scab.
Here we are on 10/27
He is not completely white, as you can see,
and the ears are colored on the backs, along with color on his tail.

Oreo, who was the largest, when I found him,
is actually the calmest when you pick him up. He seems to be saying something, as I see a bit of tongue.

And here is Peaches, who
is the hardest one to catch,
and to get still, long enough to snap a picture.
here they are on 9/11 the day I found
Oreo
And heading back to bed, after their photos were taken.

Haven't they changed dramatically?

And now for a Huckleberry story...
I had some dog food that I use for treats.
It was in the packages, inside the box, in a chair in the kitchen.
I found the box in the floor yesterday morning, no packages.
This morning, I find he has hidden part of the packages in the love seat corners.  I suspect he opened and ate at least 1, and maybe 2, before hiding these.
